My daughter and I loved All About Spelling. She loved using the tiles and white board. I think it gave her a good base for spelling. I like that it teaches (and reviews) the spelling rules and exceptions instead of just having them memorize word lists. This is a perfect curriculum for your social/creative child.

Pros
Fun, thorough, lots of review
Cons
High parent involvement. For older kids, they still recommend going through all the levels which can get boring and expensive

My hands on learner loved his first year of All About Spelling. He really enjoyed using the tiles and gained a sense of accomplishment when mastering the cards. He really remembers the rules he learns and applies them to new words. I am now having my poor spelling 7th grader go through the program.

Not only has this taught my little one to spell, it has taught me a few things, too. They also have great customer service! We will be using it until the end.

I like how easy this program makes it to teach spelling rules! There are a lot of those rules and each level reinforces those rules as you progress. The only downside is that if you lose a tile, you cannot easily replace it.

I started using this when my son was in third grade. Some of the spelling words were a bit simplistic, but reinforced the concepts very well. We lost two tiles when we dropped the board, that is the only downside. My son has been remembering the concepts and it works awesome.

My kids love this spelling curriculum! The hands on building of the words with the tiles just makes so much sense. It is great for my boys who need to use their hands to build things. The teachers guide is easy to use, everything is laid out for parents who want to use this curriculum. I love that the publisher also has a lot of additional resources on their website as well. Highly recommended.

We have been successful using thus program with my daughter who has dyslexia. It's very hard for her to work with a spelling list that doesn't appear to have a rhyme or reason, but this is phonics based so she's able to focus on using a phonic rule to spell.

We have used levels 1-4 and I definitely recommend it! I love that it teaches all the learning styles and that it gets them our of their seats. I integrate some additional review games for variety and to spice up our work, but the curriculum is thorough and does a great job of teaching the students to encode the words phonemically, making sure to teach the rules for why things are the way they are. My DD is a poor speller, but she has learned SOOOO much with this curriculum and my DS is shaping up to be an excellent speller thanks to AAS.

Teaches kinesthetic, audio, visual, and tactile. Includes great specific directions for instruction. Builds skills gradually and purposefully. Includes plenty of review.
Cons
Can become a bit tedious because of its consistent repetition nature.

I started Level 1 with my 10 year old son who didn't really struggle with reading but I noticed was struggling with spelling. While each level has been easy for him, he is learning some of the spelling rules that I realized we missed because he picked up on reading so quickly. This curriculum is very easy to use, lays everything out for you, engages the kids using magnetic tiles, flashcards, a sticker progress chart, etc. Although my son is 10 he is still enjoying the program and looks forward to each lesson.

We love AAS! You can move as fast or as slow as you need to for each lesson. Lessons can be shortened and spread out over a few days or done in 20 minutes. The lessons build on each other and do a great job of making students practice and understand the reason we use certain rules in English.

We switched to All About Spelling in January of this year. I started both my 5th and 3rd grader in level 1. They are both different types of learners and both of them like it. We don't use the tiles for everything in each lesson. Instead we use a dry erase board for a lot of it. We have gone quickly through the levels to get both of them to the level they need to work on, but the review and spelling rules they have learned have been helpful. We will continue to use this spelling program!

This is a tough one to think about recommending because while my children don't "love" this as much as they love All About Reading, I would still recommend it because they have learned a ton using this product and it is very easy to use and goes so well with All About Reading. After using Level 2, my 3rd Grade daughter tested well into the High School level of IEW's Spelling Zoo program. Much of this was due to her voracious reading as well, but I firmly believe this program gave her a fantastic foundation. My son, who is not such a natural speller, is also doing great with it and just finished Level 1. I saw him struggle a bit more with some spelling rules (such as "qu" words) but I saw him make great progress by the end of the lessons. So I would definitely still recommend it. I don't think every program we as homeschoolers use has to be colorful and flashy, and I say that as a former children's curriculum editor who spent all day purposely making things colorful and flashy as part of my job! :-) It took me awhile to change that mindset for myself but I finally see that to be true in my own homeschool.
