This is a great program for my dyslexic son. It really reinforces spelling concepts in a way that no other program does. It is an open-and-go program, which is very helpful because there is very little pre-planning involved.
We have used levels 1-4 so far and have enjoyed this curriculum. It has actually helped my 1st grader learn how to read as well as spell! I love the thoroughness of the program and the built in review. Makes it so easy for mom to just open and go. My kids don't enjoy the tiles so we don't use them. It can get a bit tedious so we are careful not to bog the kids down with too much.
My one recommendation with this curriculum is that you buy the storage box from the company. I've used one bought from the store and none of them fit the cards properly and cause damage. This makes you lower your prices for resale.

Pros
Hands on and very interactive.
Cons
Time consuming to set up if you don't leave it out, and chances for lost pieces with younger kids.
My son was a natural reader {by age 3} but a horrible speller {at age 6}. Once I figured out that he could decode {break up} words easily in order to read but not encode{put together} them in order to spell, I realized I needed a spelling curriculum that focused on that skill. I added AAS mid year and doubled up on the work so we finished it by the end of the year and the effects on his spelling and writing were instant. We're now on our third year of AAS and it continues to be a total help. It's hard to admit that I made the horrible assumption that a gifted/natural reader would equal a natural speller. That was not the case for us at all and I have AAS to thank for showing me how to teach spelling to an "unnatural" speller.

Pros
All laid out with directions for teacher. Easy to plan and implement.
My daughter has Dyslexia. In public schools last year every Thursday night she would get sick to her stomach worrying about her spelling test the next day. This is our first year homeschooling and we started to see anxiety over spelling even here at home. We found All About Spelling and now she asks to do spelling everyday! There hasn't been a single tear while doing this program and she is enjoying it and best of all, she is learning. I would encourage anyone to buy it! It is worth every single penny!
I have three boys and we have been using All About Spelling with them for three years now. It is review for my older sons, but we still do it for them to hear the rules and the rule breakers. They consider this an easy quick win on their lesson plan and enjoy doing the work. It is so easy to use for the teacher.... It literally even gives you the language you can use to present each and every lesson. There is no guess work and you know if your children have mastered it before you move to the next lesson. Each book has approximately 30 lessons. So we could be plowing through this curriculum very quickly. We chose to take it more leisurely. We will cover two levels a year from here on out. I highly recommend this curriculum!!
