Summer Reading List for Preteen Girls
As a homeschooling mom, one of my biggest challenges is keeping good reading material in front of my eleven-year-old daughter!
This girl is an avid reader, and wholesome books are always in high demand at our house; she reads books nearly as fast as I can find them!
This year, I compiled a summer reading list for pre-teen girls. Maybe this list will help you find great reads for your daughters, too!
Obviously this list is more than a girl could possibly read in one summer, which means it should get us off to a great start!

Where to find these books:
You can find many (or most) of the books on this list at your local library, or you can order them from Amazon.
I would love for you to check out Read Another Page for great books and audio stories by Rebekah A. Morris, and the Bright Lights home page for great resources for young girls by Sarah Mally.
My oldest really likes the Baker Family Adventures by C.R. Hedgcock. It’s adventure stories of a homeschool family. A lot of books in your list are our favorite too!
This summer my girls (10 & 12) are reading Melody Carlson books and Sandra Byrd. We are also reading Sisters in Time Books. It is hard to keep up with them in reading.
So hard to find meaty and modern without filthy language or “coming-of-age” themes (ie, sex). Even my go-to books for gifted pre-teens like Pippi Longstocking, Princess Bride, The Hobbit, and Where the Red Fern Grows, are now decades old. The Roman Mysteries series is more recent, but not really literature per se. Nimm’s Island? Cosmic? Historical connections, how about The Wave or The Bomb?
I loved the Grandma’s attic series as a child!
The Milly~Molly~Mandy books by Joyce Lankester Brisley. They have been reprinted with the original pictures & maps & are excellent as many boys enjoy these simple stories also.
Awesome list! Wanda Brunstetter has a great series about an Amish girl named Rachel Yoder.
