HHM Favorite Posts and This Week’s Hop (10/29/2013)

Welcome to the Hip Homeschool Hop!

Favs from last week:

Did you see these posts? We loved them! Here are a few of our favorites from last week:

One of our writers, Jamie, who blogs at The Unlikely Homeschool,  liked the link up from Education Possible about How to Use American Girl Dolls to Teach History.  Jamie believes– ‘Any subject comes alive when you make it relevant to the learner. What little girl wouldn’t LOVE to study American History with one of her favorite doll pals by her side?’

Taryn, who blogs at Hazy Days, says keeping a strict grocery budget is an ongoing problem for her (Can’t we allll relate?!), therefore her favorite post this week was Five Benefits of Keeping a Strict Grocery Budget from Home With A Purpose.

Demetria’s (who blogs at Mom Zest ) favorite post this week was Learning With Boys post about Everyday Science:  The Metric Kitchen.   Demetria added that math is always more fun in the kitchen–especially when cookies are involved!

Trish, who blogs at Live and Learn Farm’s favorite post was the Free Printable of Leaf Identification Cards offered by Wildflower Ramblings.  Trish says, “I love every opportunity to homeschool and teach with hands-on materials! When you combine nature and hands-on, that is a win/win! I love that this mom is introducing botany to her tots so early with simple matching work. With the leaves starting to fall, it is a perfect time to do this study. And she made it even easier for other moms to teach this material by creating and sharing a free download for the matching cards!”

Heidi, our team member who blogs at Starts at Eight, shared her favorite from Education Possible this week about Lewis and Clark’s Animal Discovery Journal.  Two of Heidi’s kiddos are studying Lewis and Clark right now, and these journal pages are free and fit right in!  LOVE when that happens!

Stephanie, our team member that blogs at Harrington Harmonies, is an art lover and enjoyed Little Bins for Little Hands method of Teaching Color Mixing.  Stephanie’s favorite from this post was the idea of using paint sample cards as guides to sort.

Leann said she liked House Full of Chaos’ Henry Hudson Navigation Activity because “I always enjoy posts that connect an activity with content. I love that this lesson illustrates the historical aspects of navigation, and looks like a fun activity to do when studying explorers.”

  1. Thank you so much for featuring my post about Using American Girl in History Jamie! My oldest is huge history fan, but my youngest is not so eager. Too much killing she says! But once we hit American History and I include the dolls and their stories, she is engaged and ready to go. Hopefully other moms will utilize the great resources that were created by AG to help with their history lessons. They certainly make my life easier!
