Singapore Math's Primary Mathematics, U.S. Edition Series features the Concrete> Pictorial> Abstract approach. Students begin by learning through concrete and pictorial means before moving into abstract thought and development, which encourages an active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving. Lessons are designed for a mix of teacher instruction and independent work, and students are encouraged to discuss ideas and explore additional problem-solving methods.

The US Edition series is designed specifically for U.S. students. Names, terms in examples, measurements, spellings, currency and other such elements have been changed to reflect American names and stylistic preferences.

We really like Singapore Math so far. My son enjoys doing his math work. I supplement with some simple hands-on/visual activities since he's young to keep it fun and to make sure he really grasps the concepts.

tried with my oldest and gave up too soon- thought it was too easy
should have done with my son- would have been perfect but followed someone else's advice and did something different.
third child- it has been awesome! So regret missed opportunity with older kids
but next two little ones will also use Singapore!

We used Singapore Math Essentials for Kindergarten for both children. We all really liked the books and I felt like it gave the kids a great foundation for math. Their level of understanding in math now is unbelievable. The books themselves are short and to the point, but they are just fun enough to keep the kids engaged. They cover just enough stuff to not be too much and the problems are perfect for kindergarten. Wish there was more color in the books but they work well with out all the fancy mess.

This curriculum started out very basic and was an absolute breeze for my son. He loves workbooks though so it made him get excited about math and feel like he is good at it. In the second half, the difficulty picks up so now he's challenged a bit more, but not so much that he's discouraged.

The books are very colorful and a lot of the activities are presented more as story problems, which helps make math seem relevant and engaging. My son loves this curriculum.

This has been the best math curriculum we've found. Unfortunately we didn't get the home instructor guides so that has made it a little bit of a challenge, but even on their own the textbooks and workbooks are easy enough to use. My son really struggles with math, but I think Singapore is really helping him better understand some concepts.

The Home Instructor Guides are essential imho...they tell you what concepts they need to understand from each lesson, how to teach those concepts, reinforce them with examples and games, as well as all the mental math and answer key. The textbooks do a good job of presenting new information in a step by step fashion in an engaging way. Workbooks are perfect amount for enough practice, but not overwhelming or drudgery.

I have been very impressed with Singapore math. The only problem I have is with the home instructors guides for levels 2+. I really liked the instructors guide for level 1(written by Singapore), and have been very disappointed with the ones for level 2 and 3(by sonlight). I have just been teaching a section in the text book and having her do the workbook exercises indicated. Occasionally, I will consult the teachers guide for answers. I have no plans to change math programs anytime soon.

I was very excited with Singapore in the early years because of the way it taught mental math. However when my daughter reached 5th and 6th grade I realized that the number of exercises had not been enough to ingrain the concepts. She quickly caught up when we switched to Saxon on the 7th grade and I will continue to use the Singapore for my boys but with the extra practice books. The boys are more mathematical and with the extra practice should be able to transition into 7th grade math easily.

Most people who use this curriculum absolutely love it. A few problems we have had with it over the years have soured our taste for math a bit, but yes, we are planning to use it again next year. The lessons require a lot of teacher interaction with manipulatives which need to be purchased separately. Lessons are usually daily and can last from 5-30 minutes each. Some of the concepts are a bit tricky to understand and teach when simply looking at the Student Textbook so I would suggest buying the Teacher's Guides as well. This will include the answers to the student workbook as well and extra mental math worksheets. Our main problem has been when my daughter has difficulty with a concept and then doesn't have a review scheduled soon enough to aid in retention. By the time a review is scheduled in the book, she has forgotten the concept completely and requires it to be retaught. About 2/3's of a book will be very simple for her but there are not enough questions or reviews on her areas of difficulty. Toward the end of this year, I finally realized that when I am teaching a lesson and she completely understands it, I should skip to the end and the hardest questions to be certain she is grasping it and then cut the lesson short. I am also only assigning about 3 problems in the workbook from the entire page. If she gets them correct then we move on. This is boosting her self confidence, cutting her arduous lessons shorter, and aiding us in arriving at the next review at a much rapider pace. I'm hoping this approach will help next year by providing us several problems to turn back to for review as needed.

This curriculum is a perfect fit for my daughter. She was in online public school for 3 years and she was able to adjust to this curriculum nicely. We are currently using 3A/3B US Primary Edition. Sometimes there can be a lot of work between the text book and the work book, however, I adjust it to meet our needs. Sometimes I will expand an assignment over 2 days or sometimes I will pick and choose what my daughter needs to work on. We really like this curriculum and I have already purchased 4A/4B to use next school year.

My daughter's favorite subject is math thanks to Singapore Math. She has worked through 1 A&B, 2 A&B, 3A and will be finishing up 3B in a couple weeks. She is excited to start 4A. I feel she has developed a wonderful understanding of math.

We have used this for 1st and 2nd grade (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b). This year we will soon start 3a and 3b for my 3rd grader and Essentail Math for Kindergarten for my 5 year old. These books are very affordable especially when conpared to some other math curricula. That is why we first used Singapore math. It was inexpensive and I heard good things from other HS moms. It worked really well for us and even though I have looked at other math books, I can't see us switching.
