Guest Post Opportunity!

Hello from the Hip Homeschool Moms team! We are working on our blog calendar for the new year, and we would like to invite you to submit a guest post for consideration! Below you will find each month’s theme along with some possible post topics. Please keep in mind that you are not limited to these specific topics. They are just suggestions to get you started! If you think of a topic that’s not listed yet works with that month’s theme, then that’s great!

Hip Homeschool Moms is expanding!

Before we discuss the themes, we are excited to tell you about some changes coming to Hip Homeschool Moms.   As you well know, homeschooling is FAR more than just choosing the way we plan to educate our children… it is a lifestyle.  And this life we have chosen is a crazy, busy, hectic, and lively one that stretches most of us pretty thin!  So we are expanding our focus to include the areas that homeschool moms most stress over.  Every writer that writes for Hip Homeschool Moms is in a homeschooling family (past, present or future).  So we will always focus on how to help a homeschooling mom cope in these areas that stress us: Meals, Frugal Living, Home Management, Real Life and Healthy Living.  With these categories in mind, now let’s discuss the themes for the upcoming months:

January’s  Theme will be New Beginnings.

  • – This time of year you might want to write about New Year traditions such as the whole concept of new year’s resolutions (or why not to create resolutions this time of year).
  • – You might choose to write about what so many moms’  new year’s resolutions surround: simplifying our lives,  a refocus on our priorities, and starting or restarting healthy habits.
  • – What unit studies do you cover at the beginning of the year?  Penguins, ice, snow always seem popular this month.
  • – It’s a great time to teach calendaring, at the beginning of the year.  Holidays in January are:  Martin Luther King, Jr. day, Chinese New Year.  Here is a site that lists anniversaries, birthdays, historical dates, etc. for the month of January.
  • – And of course, any learning activities or printables you are doing in your homeschool.

February’s Theme will be Love.

  • – Instead of the usual Valentine’s Day posts, you might choose to write about what defines love for you.
  • – You might write about what the Bible defines as love.
  • – And what about loving when it is hard…. where a commitment to your family is your expression of love for the time being.
  • – You might write a poem… “Love is,” from a mother’s perspective instead of a wife’s perspective (or both).
  • – How about love in a blended family, how easy/hard that is and how you walk it out.
  • – What about what is NOT love?
  • – How do you teach your children what a mature, loving marriage looks like?
  • – Holidays and happenings for February are:  Winter Olympics, Groundhog Day, President’s Day, Valentine’s Day.   Here is a site that lists anniversaries, birthdays, historical dates, etc. for the month of February.
  • – And as always, any learning activities or printables you are doing in your homeschool.

March’s Theme will be Staying Focused.

  • – During this period in our homeschools, we don’t have many calendar breaks.  How do you keep your homeschool on task?  Do you really take advantage of knocking out lots of school during the cold months?  Do you use this time to do lots of indoor field trips?  Are you teaching home ec and doing lots of Kids in the Kitchen baking?
  • – This is the time of year when we assess if we are going to finish the school year close to on time.  If not, should we consider teaching year round?  What are the pros and cons of teaching year round?  How about summer school… it’s a great time to do botany or salt water swimming creatures at the beach; should we consider that?
  • – Holidays and happenings in March:  Dr. Seuss Day, Daylight Savings time starts, Purim, St. Patrick’s Day, First day of Spring.  Here is a site that lists anniversaries, birthdays, historical dates, etc. for the month of March.
  • – And as always, any learning activities or printables you are doing in your homeschool.

We hope we have sparked your imagination to prompt you to think creatively about the topics that pertain to our theme!
