Times Tales is a creative, innovative, mnemonic-based program that makes it fun and easy to memorize the upper multiplication and division facts. Cute, simple stories provide students with a "memory peg" that allows them to quickly and easily recall otherwise abstract facts. Times Tales covers the most difficult to remember facts that can't quickly be calculated by skip counting: 3x6,3x7,3x8,3x9,4x6,4x7,4x8,4x 9,6x6,6x7,6x8,6x9, 7x7,7x8,7x9,8x8,8x9,9x9.
Students are introduced to each number as a "character." For example, the number seven is Mrs. Weeks because there are seven days in a week. Once students learn the number characters, they learn short, simple stories where the numbers interact in some fashion. Students simply picture two number characters together to recall the story, which includes the answer to the multiplication fact. It's amazing how much easier it is for students to recall a simple story, than an abstract fact!
We didn't use the DVD, but the book was amazing!!!!! My daughter FINALLY conquered multiplication with this product. She would have loved if they had a story for EVERY multiplication fact. She kept wanting more!!!!
Love this program amazing results . I do wish they would expand their product to cover more things in math ,All in all this is the only thing that has helped my child
Ok, this program is freaky amazing. I was skeptical, but had tried everything else to teach my child her times tables, she is learning disabled. This worked, the first time she watched it!! She was so thrilled that she could do it also! Love, love this product!
This was amazing at teaching the upper multiplication facts. My daughter use to struggle with them. She just was not learning them the conventional way. So we got this DVD. With in a few weeks she knew them. The stories are simple and fun. If your kids are having a hard time with multiplication give this a try!
I can't say enough good about this program. It helped my son memorize his upper multiplication facts in a matter of days. To this day he will still recite the stories if he gets stuck. This is a fun, easy, quick way for kids to learn their upper multiplication tables.
We got this as a fun addition while learning muliplication! My kids really enjoy the story lines =)
Love this! This has helped my daughter so much in learning her multiplication.
I used the cards and stories for my daughter who was struggling to learn all of her times tables. She had learned some but certain ones were tripping her up. So, we turned to these stories and they helped her solidify the ones she was struggling with. I seem to recall that there were a couple stories that were hard to understand at first. We didn't have the DVD so perhaps that would have avoided those confusions.
My oldest had such a difficult time learning her times tables until we found this. It is fun and really sticks with her! Times Tales has made multiplication and division a breeze for her - when she gets stuck, I just remind her to think if the story and she has the answer in seconds. Times Tales was a game changer for us and I am grateful for it! Now using it with my 7 year old twins and they are catching on so fast!
I turned to this in desperation when my fifth grader still couldn't remember the facts we had been trying to memorize for three years. She is a "words" person, and the stories instantly helped her. She really could use her facts successfully in a very short time, like hours for some, and a week for others. I used this to tutor another girl who made huge strides in only the first session. My sons who came later did not have trouble memorizing their facts, and didn't want the added distraction of something like this. To them it seemed it was another step they didn't need. I love that even very young children can learn the stories and then later connect the facts they are learning with the process behind the multiplication. I think this is best used for students who have been taught multiplication thoroughly and seem to need " another angle" to help them get the memorization down. This company is fabulous. We love their Clean and Flip colorful laminated charts, too! The Math Memory Triggers are helpful as well.
At the end of the day, there's no getting around the fact that the multiplication tables must be memorized. Some people are more wired to memorize numbers--in which case Times Tales would not benefit--and others are more wired to memorize stories. If your child falls in the latter category, this may be a helpful add-on to learning multiplication. Your child will still need instruction on what multiplication IS and WHY/HOW it is done but Times Tales is a memory aid--nothing more. But that's all it is designed to be, so for that, it is fine.
It was a good reinforcement for our use of flash cards but I sill think it's rather gappy in that it didn't teach all of the tables. I'm not sure it was the best fit for my daughter.
This is a wonderful way for children who are visual learners to learn their math facts. All three of my children have struggled with math facts. But, having used this for my twins has made multiplication so much easier.
This is a great way for kids to learn those hard to grasp math facts. I started when Mr kids were about 8. They loved the stories and didn't even know they were learning math facts! As they grew and encountered them in their math curriculum they already knew them!! I wish I had this for me older 2 kids. We struggled so much with flash cards and drills and I still don't think they know their facts as well as my younger kids!
We used the Times Tales video in our home for a month. It worked so well!! My third grade son was struggling with his math facts and within two weeks he had a good grasp of the facts and within a month, he had them down.
I got this for my 4th grade daughter who has struggled with multiplication for over a year due to dyscalculia and reversing numbers. I admit, I was skeptical... Nothing had worked and she was getting frustrated and so was I. But, we decided to give it a try. She watched the part 1 video. I never would have thought to use characters and stories to teach but figured, lets see how this works. 10 days later... I gave her the part one quiz (I bought the digital download and it comes with pdf printable worksheets and quizzes) and she got them all. First time, no tears.
I cannot recommend this product highly enough, it has been a lifesaver for us and is helping to restore my daughters confidence in math.
My kindergarten son isn't doing multiplication yet obviously, but he was watching over her shoulder and he even picked up a few without us even really trying.
My daughter has struggled with math facts for years. I had never heard of this program until I won it during a FB party. I was shocked at how quickly my daughter learned these facts. My 6 year old nephew even memorized some of them!
I only gave 4 stars, because I really wish they would have included more of the multiplication facts. At least 3-9. Now my daughter only knows the ones in this program, but still struggles with the rest. I can't introduce another right brain type program or she will get all of the characters and stories messed up and will not get the right answers.
I bought Times Tales to use with my 2nd grader later in the spring. However, I took advantage of the free download of the upper 9's. My son liked the video and it kept his attention. I was sort of skeptical because the introduction said kids would learn the upper 9's in about 15 minutes. Well, my son watched the video once and now a week later, he still knows his upper 9's multiplication tables. Seeing how well he did with the free video, I've decided to start Times Tales with him now instead of waiting for the Spring. I am truly excited and impressed with this program. What an excellent product.
We've been working with our 8 year old twins with their multiplication tables for a few months now. They are good at math so imagine my surprise when they couldn't memorize it. We tried many different things, from simple memorization to videos on youtube of multiplication songs. Still the information was not being retained. My husband and I were quite sure we were the reason they couldn't get it!
Enter Time Tales!
On day one, the review from my boys was a good one. One actually said "I think I can learn them now". They both agreed the story was fun and they actually told me all about it when I got home from work.
Day two I was actually home with them. They were eager and ready to get back to the story. They wanted to take a "test" after so we printed the practice test and they knew every answer!
What I like about it:
* It is written with the kids in mind.
* Great for my auditory learners!
* The video is engaging, and it keeps the attention of my very active boys.
* The price! It is affordable, and a great investment.
My boys are so proud of themselves now that they remember their multiplication tables. It has boosted their self esteem and they now feel they can do math too!
I just wish the developers of this wonderful product would do the same for other subjects (language arts for example). This is a product I will tell all my friends with young kids about!
My 8 year old was struggling through learning multiplication and it was frustrating her so badly she was not interested in trying. This program turned that around and she learned them so easily that it amazed me! I am grateful to have found it!
