Read-Aloud Books the Whole Family Will Love
Reading aloud to kids is not only good for their reading skills and literacy skills, but it’s also a great way to bond with your kids. We love reading together as a family, and even my eldest, who doesn’t like to read on her own, will sit down and read with me.
Over the years, we’ve read a lot of books, but some books we come back to over and over. Many of these books were read to my siblings and me when we were growing up, and I have fond memories of reading with my parents before bed at night.
These books make perfect read-aloud books to read with your kids. I find that even my older daughter still likes reading the “little kid” books with us at night.

We have the most success reading at night before bed or early in the morning before the kids are awake enough to want to move around much. We usually pick a short book if we’re running late for bed, or we will sometimes read a chapter out of a longer book. I often have my eldest take a turn reading a few pages, which helps strengthen her reading skills, vocabulary, and clarity while reading.
What are some of your favorite read-aloud books?
That is a great list! We just finished our read aloud (The BFG) and are looking for another book. I will check these out. Thanks!
I just started reading The House of Sixty Fathers with my kids (ages 4, 6, 8). They’ve been surprisingly attentive and love it so far!
