Biology 101 is a complete overview of the world of biology from a Biblical perspective. These 4 DVDs are full of accurate and fascinating information supported by hundreds of captivating visuals and graphics. Included on the fourth disc is a printable (PDF) guidebook with quizzes covering the material presented in each segment and a one-year high school course booklet. The DVDs contain nine individual segments ranging from 30-45 minutes each.
The videos are fun to watch. It's like watching a Youtube video. Kids gain a lot just from the videos alone.
The tests were very easy. We have reused the videos with other curriculum. If you have an animal lover this is a great way to let them read and work on biology.
I first used these DVDs with my very science adverse 10th grader. We were on our second year of valiantly attempting to get the boy through biology, and used these DVDs as the finisher so we could call biology DONE. I had him work on it daily, flesh it out with assigned extra reading, and he still completed the whole thing in nine weeks.
My then 4th grader was deeply interested in biology at the time and learned gobs just from watching over big brother's shoulder. It's VERY accessible to younger kids, and just covers the bare basics for science adverse bigger kids.
The 9th grader I used these with wasn't my child. We kept a close friend's 9th grader for awhile and used these to fill the gap. He wasn't terribly hip on them, but it kept his brain moving while he was here.
I would use these again with an upper elementary or middle school student as a supplement.
We have loved it. I actually enjoyed adding in what I wanted. I even wrote an additional 6 week section into the program on the most common Origin of Life theories
While this is a great dvd set, it is NOT a complete full year curriculum. We had to add in a ton of supplements. Lots of living books, experiments, and videos. It did get my son and I to talk a ton. We just finished the dvd's yesterday. The genetics section brought lots of questions and us looking up things and me explaining things more in depth.
I used this for my special needs daughter. The activities include locating and reading short books related to specific subjects. I used videos instead which she really enjoyed.
