Jr. Analytical Grammar: Mechanics has been written in response to frequent requests from our customers for instruction in punctuation, capitalization, and usage designed for children younger than those who are in the third “season” of Analytical Grammar. Many punctuation rules are based on a knowledge of advanced grammar, such as is covered in the second “season” of Analytical Grammar; however, we have pulled together those punctuation, capitalization, and usage rules which students with a thorough understanding of basic grammar can comprehend. Jr. AG: Mechanics is best used RIGHT AFTER completing Jr. AG. It usually takes 15 weeks. For grades 4 and 5.

Short, very informal introductions are written directly to the student and open up each topic with a distinctly Christian perspective. Suggestions for activities or writing exercises are often included as well. The booklists follow, with selected annotations on what pages or sections to read and appropriate grade levels for each entry. Incredibly flexible in nature, families can proceed at the pace that’s best for their students as they select “spines,” biographies, in-print books, and out-of-print classics from the extensive lists.

Proceeding chronologically, entries include lists for Mighty King Arthur, Augustine, Vikings, Alfred the Great, Robin Hood, Medieval towns, Marco Polo, Charles the Wise, and other relevant unit-study topics.

This program includes unique ideas for helping children learn to write their letters and numbers without frustration, tips for the left-handed child, discussion on why it is important to teach capitals first and why standard handwriting paper just confuses children. The author even has remedies for the common mistakes children make, such as letter reversals, floating letters, etc.

The cursive program is for grades 3-5.
