This was our first year using Notgrass curriculum. We were a little overwhelmed by two text books, so we decided to do as some other families have suggested and break the study up over the course of two years. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed reading the first book in the series. We were able to visit some of the historical sites she learned about and that was wonderful. I supplimented some things with library books and DVDs so that we could study some people and places in greater depth for 7th grade. We both learned alot and we are looking forward to completing the second book this year.

We used this for my 5th grade daughter. She loved what she was learning and I fell in love with history for the first time in my 30-something years. We did all the supplemental materials that go with this curriculum and I highly recommend them.

We used this for our 8th grade to tie all of our past years of American History together. I liked how it was laid out, and that they had quizzes and tests. That way I did not have to make them up myself like other curriculums.

We really enjoyed Notgrass Company's America the Beautiful. I thought having the primary source document book was invaluable to the study of our nation's history. The only regret I have is that we used this with our co-op and had to stay on schedule. There was no time to dig deeper into subjects that my children found more interesting. We added in different literature as one of my children had previously read the suggested lit books, and the other was a little on the younger side.
Beautiful pictures adorn the texts and engaged my girls.

My son really enjoys this study. It is interesting to read and very thorough. We really enjoy the primary source documents in the "We the People" book as well. The only negative I've found is that there are so many pieces and books. The text is 2 full books, there is the "We the People" book, the map book, the timeline book, and then other books to purchase for lesson reviews and tests. We do a lot of school outside our house and it's a lot to carry around.

My 12-year-old son eats this up! He actually spends his "free time" working on maps, re-reading the text, and/or looking up other books at the library to supplement what he is learning. He's excited to share his new knowledge with the rest of the family at mealtimes. We've all benefitted from what he is learning. This curriculum really seems to make history come alive. My younger daughter is begging to know when she can do the same history books.

This is the best history curriculum I have ever seen, used or reviewed. First of all, it is so colorful, beautiful and it just bring history to life! This is so important for visual learners like my daughter. In addition to the text being written in such a easy to understand way, it also provides supplemental letters, short stories and documentation to go along with the unit. For instance, if you are reading about slavery, there will be stories about real people along with the history unit to bring it to life and apply to today's world. I truly can not say enough...
