Life of Fred is a complete math program that relies upon the self-teaching learning style many homeschoolers love. The texts follow the life of Fred Gauss—a six-year-old math professor at Kittens University who was born on the slopes of the Siberian Mountains—who has many humorous, unlikely, and zany adventures. Informal in tone and approach, these books are designed to engage students in a fun narrative while also instilling a solid understanding of the principles of mathematics–without an abundance of repetitive drills!

This book & CD-ROM set is the second semester course of the Homeschool Programming Java and Android “TeenCoder” course-year; this book is preceded by Java Programming, which is a prerequisite for this course. Students must have a good knowledge of the content of Java Programming, be able to use application menu systems, and walk through their file system and directory structures in order to complete this book. The TeenCoder C# series may be completed before or after this years’ course. Students in grades 9-12 will learn to write their own mobile applications and understand the building blocks for Android applications by following the user-friendly book & course CD and completing the activities integrated into each chapter. Lessons written using plenty of screenshots and visually distinct programming language fonts ensure that instructions and code are clearly understood. Student activities and fully coded solutions for all activities are included.

Short (page-and-a-half) biographical sketches present a quick look at the innovation and courage many had, profiling what they are remembered for today, and providing insights into their motivations. Critical thinking activities include sequencing of events and true/false questions; maps help students to see where events took place; and timelines provide an overview of particular time periods. An activity extends the lesson, and various games (crosswords, word scramble, etc.) provide a fun way to remember the important part of each biography.
