Classical music is uniquely part of our Western civilization. Research suggests that both listening to and playing classical music aids brain development. Even rudimentary exposure increases one’s level of enjoyment and understanding. This course provides a close-up look at famous composers, their music, and their times, with special attention to character traits and Christian testimony (or lack thereof). Even the musically challenged will enjoy this course! It’s perfect for grades 4-8 but is easily adaptable for younger and older students. Minimal teacher prep will return maximum enjoyment!

Uncle Sam and You will immerse students in a full year of learning about civics and government. Designed for students in grades 5-8, lessons focus on America’s founding documents, branches of government, patriotic symbols, voting, the election process, Washington, D.C., the presidency, how Congress works, American holidays, and aspects of federal, state, and local government. Each full-color lesson includes a short chapter to read that explains the topic to the student; chapters feature both modern and historical photographs and illustrations. Lessons conclude with a variety of subject-based activity ideas that relate to Biblical studies, literature, creative writing, art, vocabulary, reading assignments, and notes for the sold-separately (and optional) student workbook/lesson review. A weekly family activity that involves crafts, meals, and other multi-age activities is also provided. Fifteen units are included each text, with four lessons in each unit. Depending on how many activities are assigned, students will need 45-90 minutes per lesson. However, the back of each book includes fifteen optional lessons on America’s patriotic holidays. If five lessons per week are desired, the holiday lessons can be used as a fifth lesson or for other occasions. A total of 150 lessons/30 weeks of lessons are provided.

Illuminations is a practical, comprehensive, customizable curriculum guide, covering Bible, language arts (grammar, writing, copywork, spelling, and vocabulary), literature, science, geography, history, and life skills built to wrap around The Mystery of History series or All American History series. (Math is not scheduled in Illuminations.) Each year of Illuminations contains lesson plans, guides, and reading schedules for grades 3–12. If you have younger children, they can join in with the older students thanks to the additional teaching ideas for grades K–2. In Illuminations we’ve chosen curriculum that you can pick up and use without a lot of advance preparation. This comprehensive modern history cover both U.S. and World History side by side.  Whereas the majority of history studies end with World War II and study U.S. and World History separately, TRISMS combines them and covers such important events as 9/11.
