My 5th grade daughter wanted to study chemistry last year and I chose this textbook for her. It gave her a fabulous introduction to chemistry. The experiments/activities were nice and some were very fun! The resource CD was nice and convenient to have, as well. Finally, it was great that there were no separate materials to buy other than materials needed for the experiments. The answers, tests, etc. were all included.
My 5th and 7th graders used this book as their primary spine for chemistry this year. We're not too big on textbooks for these ages, but we used it as a springboard to keep us on track. We also went through RS4K Chemistry, The Elements/Carbon Chemistry (McHenry), Chemistry 101 DVDs, and lots of extra readers.
The 5th grader gave CKE two hearty thumbs up, and the 7th grader gave it 1.5. It accomplished the objective of keeping us on track with our chemistry studies, so two thumbs up from me. If we had've worked through it straight from front to back we may have a different story to tell, but, again, we're not big on textbook work for these ages. I tucked the book into our school closet to potentially use again with the younger kids someday.

I used this curriculum for an online class, I felt the book didn't go in depth enough to be useful in her chemistry class.
We used this to cover the Chemistry learning outcomes with one of my children. What I loved was the engaging and understandable way that it read. Very practical, take it with you information. I wish it went a little in depth. If I were to use it again, I would use it with younger children, my child was a little "Mature" shall we say, for the instructions. Many times I read aloud and rephrased the section, to make it more palatable. Yes I would recommend, but would suggest a younger audience. :)
I like the easy w ay the subject is taught.
