I highly recommend this series. Pat covers the basics of drawings with simple lessons. I've used the DVDs in a co-op setting, but your child can easily do it on their own. The whole series set includes some bonus projects involving other media besides pencil. The kids really enjoyed those as well, which make me want to check out her project series.

Easy to use with step by step directions.
Cons
I think the kids would like to see the finished project first. But you could always fast forward to the end to see the finished picture, then skip back to the beginning.
