I really wanted to like this product but I gave up on it after a few months. The content is very wordy, and the experiments often didn't work for me like they were supposed to. It was difficult to explain a failed experiment by skimming and summarizing the complicated explanations in the text. I was working with very young kids, I could see this being much more effective in the middle grades, but it was just too complicated and confusing for me with littles!

I used SITB with my 3rd and 5th grade girls this year. It is our favorite subject and we will probably use the next book in the series next year. There is a simple experiment with each lesson using mostly household items and a few inexpensive things to buy. It's important to read ahead in order to collect all the items needed for experiments and occasionally prep the experiment the night before. It would be easier to read a lesson and answer questions, but the experiments make it fun for the girls and help them understand the lesson better.

Pros
Experiments with every lesson and they actually work most of the time. I only have to buy a few inexpensive items for experiment, most items are found around the house. Both my girls enjoyed science together this year
Cons
Not for anyone who doesn't like to do experiments! I think that's what made my girls love it.

We started this in January of my son's 4th grade year and he completed it at the beginning of 5th grade. It was great! Easier to use than any other science products we've used by the same author. All information is in bite-sized pieces, easy to see where to start and finish for the day. We only did a few to the experiments, as my older child is special needs and needed much help during this time. But it was easy to read through the experiments and understand what was happening and expected. We completed those were were most interested in and have gone on to use both of the next two books. Wish these were available when my high schooler was younger. I have heard he plans to write a total of 5. We can't wait for the others to come out.

This was a fun curriculum for us. It is very hands on with easy experiments. Most of the supplies are things you can find in your house. We shortened some of the chapters a bit & focused on the experiments to help solidify the information. Overall, this is a fun curriculum full of great information.

This has been my favorite science book since we started homeschooling 3 years ago. The lessons are short yet interesting and informative. The many experiments are fun and help in retaining what is being taught.
