Who is Measurement Incorporated?

Measurement Incorporated™ (MI) is an employee-owned corporation that provides educational and professional examinations, program evaluation, and related services to state and local governments, other testing companies, and various professional organizations. It was founded in 1980 and has earned and continues to uphold its reputation as the industry leader in providing professional hand-scoring services for essays and open-ended exams. They have built their capabilities and expertise to include test development, scanning, scoring, score reporting, psychometric services, program evaluation, printing, administration, secure shipping and storage, professional development, and multimedia instructional support.

In addition to its headquarters in Durham, the company maintains operations at 12 office locations in nine states and employs a full-time staff of almost 400 in addition to thousands of seasonal employees who assist in assessment scoring, test item development, and materials handling.

 The Position

Each of MI’s scoring centers maintains a pool of hundreds of Reader/Evaluators who are trained to score essays, open-ended test items, and performance assessments based on scoring criteria that differ by project. It is temporary, project-by-project work, and our need is greatest from January through June and to a lesser extent from September through December. We offer paid training and a professional yet relaxed working atmosphere. Test content areas vary, so if you earned a four-year college degree in any field, yesterday or decades ago, chances are, we need you!

Many projects require readers to score essays for content, organization, grammatical convention, etc. Some projects involve scoring test items in math, science, social studies, or other areas. Projects may scanned responses displayed on a computer screen or video recordings of examinees performing a task. The tests come from many different states and from students at all grade levels, elementary through college, and professionals.

Each project has its own scoring criteria; therefore, we conduct paid training at the beginning of each project. Readers must be able to accept and use the required scoring procedure and maintain consistent and reliable scoring throughout the project. They also must be willing to operate in a repetitive task situation and maintain confidentiality and project security.
