My kids love the detailed information in the text and they love the lab projects we have gotten caterpillars and watched them go through metomorphosis we caught a cricket and observed it they have gotten to draw pictures of live insects. We went to our local nature centers Bug Fest activity there have been so many inexpensive things I have been able to do to make this curriculum come alive for them. Although I will say they spend a long time on insects. If you are queasy about bugs you may want to pick a different book from the apologia library to work from. I don't like bugs, but I have still found this book to be interesting and engaging. I do recommend using the text with the journal and they sell a lab kit that has all the materials for each lab bagged and labeled (this is totally worth the money if you can swing it, it has saved me so much time and ensures we do the labs because I know I have all the materials).

Pros
Very thorough, they give very detailed information that kids love. My kids love to spout off random facts they learned about what we are studying.
Cons
Reading text can be overwhelming for young children I have learned to skim and focus on the pictures to teach lesson and use the junior notebooking journal to reinforce the learning.
