I thought this textbook was a good introduction to chemistry and physics, but I wouldn't say it is a k-5 book. I'd recommend it for an advanced 4th grader or 5-7 grades. My kids loved the experiments but their eyes glazed over during the readings.

Overall, this was a good curriculum. It would be nice if there was a Middle School supplement with more advanced activities for older kids who want to go just a bit deeper but are in between the elementary age and high school. I spent a LOT of time researching and coming up with my own activities to make it more interesting for the older crowd.

I used the Young Explorer's Chemistry and Physics with my then 4th & 6th graders. They loved all the hands on experiments and color photos. The notebooking journal was a wonderful resource to help both age levels record what they had learned and give them a fun way to review.

I appreciated the premade material lists (by lesson). This allowed me to be prepared each time instead of having disappointed kids when we didn't have X, y or z.

I was able to teach mutliple age levels from the same book and know that the younger ones were "getting it", and the older ones weren't getting bored.

We are just finishing up with this study. The kids really enjoyed the lessons and activities. I love how the kids can read the lesson on thier own and then come to me with what they have learned. We did not use the journal with this study. Instead we used the free printables that you can print from Apologia book extras. This work well for us.

We have used every single Apologia Science product up through High School Biology and have not been disappointed with a single one of them... Chemistry and Physics was fantastic! We loved the experiments and conversational style of the curriculum. My son actually reads this on his own and then we discuss what he read. He was so excited because he got to cover Chemistry before his older high school brothers covered it! LOL!! It got all 5's from my son!

We have used Apologia Young Explorers Astronomy and Apologia Marine Biology (high school) and really enjoyed them! We have also used Abeka science and I definitely prefer the Apologia. The curriculum is easy to use and the kids love all the hands-on opportunities in the curriculum. First choice every year!

Another great product from Apologia ! Comprehensive and thorough, and yet fun and thought provoking for the child. The Exploring Creation set will envelope both student and teacher with a great sense of wonder and joy of Gods wonder and fill them with biblical knowledge.

Apologia is one of the first products I look for as the years progress. All three of my sons love it. I can testify that each year when they are tested, they know the science answers! One of my sons is going to take Advanced Chemistry because he loves the product so much!

this is an engaging book. Great informative concepts presented in an intelligent, thought provoking way.The experiments ware fun and useful. Easy to implement; great springboard for stirring up even more interest. I would not hesitate to use with 3-6 graders. However, if I was teaching the younger set with no older kids in the mix, I would choose one of the other Exploring Creation books. This book held my kids' interests and inspired them to read more about the topics.

We have loved this curriculum over the past year. The reading material is very engaging and imformative, sometmes to the point of overload. Overall, they have learned SOOO much though. The Try This activities are the weak point; they seem to need more research description. I often found it best to look up my own activities to demonstrate the concepts. This happened more than once per chapter, but he chapters are very activity heavy, which is great for making the science real to the kids.

Pros
It's very interesting and thorough. It covers A LOT of material with much detail.
Cons
The "Try This" activities have often not worked for us; either the directions were insufficient or the activity just didn't work.
