We have used AAR for K through 3rd grade. The lessons were short but effective. They workbook pages are more like games than worksheets. Both of my boys have loved AAR and have now complained. They like the progress chart so they can track how much they achieved.

My Son picked it up quickly with this method. He loved manipulating the magnetic letters, and forming his own words with the sounds.

There was no writing required. I would like to see handwriting included with the words and sounds the kids are learning.

We really enjoyed AAR. My son's reading ability really took off quickly with this program and I was very happy about it. I liked the length of the lessons, they were just long enough to teach it but short enough it wasn't exhausting for my little ones. My son LOVES the readers, they are really nice. Only complaint I have is for the price I wish it included more like handwriting, but I can understand for most people piecing differently programs together may be more beneficial depending on their learner.

We were gifted a set of readers, so we jumped in on level 3, then went on to complete it, and level 4 also. My dyslexic child used the readers, and she really did well with them. The black and white pages were not overwhelming for her. The length of each story was just right. I wish we had discovered this program earlier, and started with the first level.

My daughter has started All About Reading Level 1 a few weeks ago. She is 7 and struggles with severe ADHD and dyslexia. We have been struggling with reading for a long time, it was the reason the public school held her back. Every day she would cry and beg not to read. I asked for advice from homeschooling moms and All About Reading was recommended to us. I got it and we are taking our time each day working hard on learning the words. We have only read a few stories (that build on the skills that have already been talked about in the lessons) and she is doing it. We are on lesson 8. She read the first two stories fluently, she didn't even need to sound out the words all choppy because we worked hard on the words and patterns in the words for days, and she didn't cry, She didn't beg not to do it. In fact it was fun to her and she wanted to play the games and stuff. I was amazed. We practiced that lesson for a few days (she needs this extra time) before we moved on to the next lesson. She read the AAR story to her dad and felt pretty confident with that story. I was not expecting what came next. A few nights ago I sit down and here she comes and sits next to me. She is holding a chapter book that is way above her reading level. She then opens the book to a page with a map on it and starts sounding out (CORRECTLY) all the places on the map. I literally could not hide my shock. I wish I could really express how out of character this is for her. The next day she sits next to me again and brings another book (level 2 reader) and reads every word she knows while I help her with the ones shes not quite comfortable with yet. I can't believe it. I am so proud of her and I can't believe we are FINALLY excited about reading! All About Reading has changed her life. She has had so much trouble and it has worn her down and taken her confidence and AAR has given it back to her. I am so thankful.
